Welcome to Term One in Your New School!
We will begin this term getting to know the children and helping them settle in to school routines and expectations. We use a visual timetable everyday so that the children are prepared and know what to expect during the school day. This also helps ease worries about home time as the children can visually see the day passing.
We will be learning lots of interesting information about the children this term and our topic is 'All about me and my body'. We will be thinking about and discussing looking after ourselves whilst at school and keeping our bodies healthy. This will help children with important parts of the school day, especially with regards to lunch time, toilet routines, snack time and during bouts of coughs and colds. We will also be learning about each others families and discussing who is important to us. Please join us on our visiting afternoons to see how much we have learnt about each other.
What will the school day consist of?
We encourage a lot of the children's learning to happen through play. We refer to this as 'child initiated' this is where the children can choose their learning through play. We have lots of adult support to extend the children's learning and ideas.
We will also be enjoying lots of phonics activities where we will be learning lots of new letters and sounds. Our maths will involve counting practise and number recognition. Alongside these we will be doing lots of creative tasks, reading activities, fine motor skills and physical activities to help with gross motor skills.
We are looking forward to making all of this fun and enjoyable for the children.
Talk For Writing
We started this term learning the song 'Humpty Dumpty'. We added actions to the song and also retold the song as a story using actions.
Once we had learnt the story we then added a new character who was called Patsy the cup and we changed the ending. Ask your children to share our new version with you at home!
We are now thinking about the song 'Incy Wincy Spider' we have been enjoying lots of different activities to do with spiders. Class One are very enthusiastic about play dough. We have been making our own play dough spiders. We made sure they had 8 legs and 2 eyes!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our 'Welly Walk' on Friday 7th October. We learnt all about autumn and then we went on an autumn walk in our wellies. We collected lots of different things that we thought were signs of autumn. The children loved being outside and we enjoyed exploring the school grounds and the forest school area.
When we arrived back in the classroom we used our autumn collection to produce some fantastic leafy art work.
